Inter-war plumbing:
copper, now ageing.
By the 1930s copper had become the standard for supply pipework. Inter-war homes are generally simpler to work on than the Victorian stock - but copper of this age has its own ageing concerns, and lead can still survive on the incoming main.
What we typically find
- Copper is standard, but pinhole corrosion, degraded soldered joints and old compression fittings appear with age.
- Lead may still survive on the original incoming supply pipe - worth checking and upgrading.
- Generally less likely to be listed, though some inter-war stock sits within conservation areas.
- Heating systems of this era are usually long replaced - a good moment to assess the whole system.
